Large portions of New York City and Long Island have bulkheads which have been constructed in the past and GEB/HiRise has participated in many projects to replace the aging bulkheads. A key part of our design process is to evaluate existing conditions and determine the most cost-effective type of new bulkhead considering the desired life span of the bulkhead and available budget. Comprehensive design plans have been developed using the following bulkhead materials: steel, concrete, vinyl, recycled plastic and timber.
